German Show Jumper - Ludger Beerbaum

A leading german showjumper Ludger has won many competitions & championships

Ludger Beerbaum and Couleur Rubin win the Deutschland Cup at Braunschweiger

The former world number one and multiple gold medallist, together with his 13 year old Cordalme Z/Grannus stallion were victorious in the very quick time of 35.91 seconds.

The final of the youngsters tour was an exciting event. There were a number of clears rounds to go to the jump off. The course was tight and technical in the small arena. There were nine clear rounds in the jump off and it came down to speed. Franke Sloothaak, riding Nouma D’Auzay the approved French stallion by Carthago out of a Quidam mare, who arrived in his barn only one week before the show, held the lead firmly until nearly the end, when Lars Nieberg stepped up on his Quick Star/Caletto I mare to snatch the lead. It was left to the final combination of Mylene Diederichsmeier to see if she could beat the two famous German men. It was not to be, but she placed a respectable third. An interesting combination entered into this class, was the 2008 German Olympic team member, Marco Kutscher riding Woytyla a Wolkenstein II gelding. It was also interesting to note the amount of French blood in the breeding of many of these future superstars. French blood has not been used much in Australia but would be an interesting mix, especially to add some sensitivity to the more old fashioned Holsteiner’s that have been used in abundance here. Our pick from the show, keep your eye on Nouma D’Auzay seems to be a special horse for the future. Remember you read it here first folks.

The famous stallion Air Jordan Z and his rider Daniel Deußer, who was infamously at the centre of a doping scandal at the 2007 world Cup finals, but was cleared, made a spectacular return to form winning the last class of the show the 1:55cm Volkswagon Grand Prix. Lars Nieberg topped off an excellent show with second place on the Landadel mare Lucie and Jeroen Dubbeldam, the Dutch medallist who rides Anky Van Grunsven’s showjumping horses placed third on the gelding Whisper.

German Federation dissolves national squads and bans Ludger Beerbaum

he German Equestrian Federation has disbanded its national squads (Olympic disciplines) and suspended a four-time Olympic champion following a string of allegations involving doping and illegal medication.

The dissolution of the squads is pending an internal investigation. There is much concern about the effect of the current doping controversies on the lucrative TV contracts that the German FN holds.

A three-member panel set up by the German Olympic committee will conduct an investigation, starting in June, into the several positive tests for medication ahead of the Beijing Olympics last summer.
The FN President Count Breido zu Ratzau said "With the dissolution of the squads, we want to take an important step towards credibility. Before riders can be put on a squad, they will have to front the Commission and declare their attitudes as well as their behaviours as elite riders."
"It's a radical move, with which the FN wants to conduct a comprehensive clearing up with the help of independent experts," said Michael Vesper, general director of the German Olympic Committee.
Beerbaum who was part of the Olympic show-jumping team, was suspended from Team participation after admitting to illegal practices last weekend in a newspaper interview.
"In the past I had the attitude: anything that isn't found is allowed," he told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sunday edition.
The German Equestrian Team won three gold one silver and one broze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games.
